The invention provides methods and apparatus for regulating the temperature of a liquid medium while the liquid medium is within a patient. According to one exemplary method, a catheter (20) is provided having a catheter body (22) with a proximal end (24) and a distal end (26). At least one lumen (28) extends between the proximal end (24) and a distal end (26) and an internal temperature altering region (14) is near the distal end. The catheter (20) is introduced into a body structure until the temperature altering region (14) is near a target area within the body structure. A liquid medium is introduced into the lumen so that the temperature of the liquid medium may be altered while passing through the temperature altering region (14).
La présente invention concerne des procédés et un appareil de réagulation de la température d'un milieu liquide alors que ledit milieu liquide se trouve dans le corps d'un patient. Selon un procédé cité à titre d'exemple, on utilise un cathéter (20) possédant un corps de cathéter (22) doté d'une extrémité proximale (24) et d'une extrémité distale (26). Au moins une lumière (28) s'étend entre l'extrémité proximale (24) et l'extrémité distale (26). Une zone de modification de la température interne (14) se situe à proximité de l'extrémité distale. Le cathéter (20) est introduit dans une structure du corps jusqu'à ce que la zone de modification de la température (14) soit proche d'une zone cible à l'intérieur de la structure du corps. On introduit un milieu liquide dans la lumière de manière à ce que la température du milieu liquide puisse être modifiée lors de son passage à travers la zone de modification de la température (14).
