60-SD-29 ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A compact for tools, such as cutting, drilling and shaping tools, consisting essentially of self-bonded particles of diamond or CBN is made by heating the particles at high temperature and pressure in the presence of a metallic sintering aid. The latter is removed eg by acid leaching. Compacts so produced have an enhanced thermal stability.
