The present invention relates to a template for forming a joint on a pipe comprising a template body of predetermined thickness. The template body has a recess extending throughout the body, where the recess is of substantially cylindrical configuration and is adapted to accommodate a pipe of corresponding diameter. At least one of two end portions of the recess is, in cross-section, of enlarged diameter, and the enlarged diameter portion has a configuration provided for forming the joint on the pipe of a desirable shape. The enlarged diameter end portion also has, in cross- section, a frusta-conical configuration. The template is adapted to form the joint of an O-ring configuration. The outer wall of the body has a hexagonal or any other configuration, The body has a shape of a disk of predetermined thickness depending on the particular dimensions of the joint to be formed on the pipe.
