A method of protecting a vulnerable surface of an object from impact, abrasion or extraneous contamination damage said method comprising treating said surface with a mobile composition comprising a polymerizable or polymeric material; treating said composition to provide a removable protective layer, wherein said layer is of sufficient thickness to protect said surface from said damage. The method reduces the risk of damage. Suitable materials are monomers, oligomers, prepolymers and polymers of urethanes, isocyonates, aminoplasts, epoxys, acrylics and natural and synthetic elastomers.
