A tendon guard for a skating boot has a cutout providing increased flexibility and comfort while providing protection of the skater's achilles tendon. The cutout may comprise one or more openings which allow air to more easily flow into said boot, decrease the boot weight, enable easier grasping of the boot by the skater, and reduce creasing of the tendon guard and boot cuff, thereby extending the life of the boot. The tendon guard may further comprise a flexible connection to the top of the boot cuff which, combined with the use of fewer stiffeners at the rear of the boot, increases flexibility at the boot rear to better accommodate crossover skating moves.
