ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A looper device is employed t impose a constant tension on a strip as it passes between the stands of a tan- dem rolling mill. The looper is operated by a hydraulic actua - tor which is controlled by a computer controlled hydraulic servosystem. The computer is fed a signal of the position of the looper and calculates the required pressure difference across the actuator for a desire tension.
