The present invention provides an apparatus and method for fixation of a bone anchor to a structural member used for spinal fixation, whereby spinal deformity can be corrected and mechanical stability of the spine is provided so that load is carried fully or partially through the structural member. This invention provides fixation of a bone anchor to a structural member through tensile loading of a component of the fixation mechanism. This invention is widely adaptable to a variety of bone anchors and structural members. This invention allows reduction of spine deformity resulting from varied spinal disease through the fixation mechanism alone without the need for added reduction instrumentation systems. This invention equally provides a fixation mechanism for fixation of a bone anchor to the structural member of a spine fixation system in the absence of deformity.

Cette invention a trait à un appareil et à un procédé permettant de fixer un ancrage osseux à un élément structurel utilisé pour une fixation rachidienne, une déformation rachidienne pouvant être corrigée et une stabilité mécanique de la colonne vertébrale obtenue de manière à ce que la charge soit portée complètement ou partiellement sur tout l'élément structurel. Cette invention permet une fixation d'un ancrage osseux à un élément structurel en chargeant par tension un composant du mécanisme de fixation. Cette invention peut largement s'adapter à différents ancrages osseux et éléments structurels. Cette invention permet la réduction de la déformation de la colonne vertébrale consécutive à différentes maladies rachidiennes grâce au mécanisme de fixation seul sans l'aide d'autres systèmes d'instrumentation de réduction. Cette invention concerne également un mécanisme de fixation permettant de fixer un ancrage osseux à l'élément structurel d'un système de fixation rachidienne en l'absence de déformation.
