ABSTRACT The tensioning device contains an endless drive means which is adjustable in both length directions with a rotational drive means. The drive means consists of two driving gears which are each coupled within freewheel having a drive shaft. The freewheel of the one gear is relative to the freewheel of the other gear. The drive means changes from the one gear to the other gear by means of side walls and a flange. The elongation resulting from a strain of the drive means is continuously led out of the system, so that a blocking or a braking of the drive means is avoided. The tensioning device is especially suitable for the operation of strip curtains or conventional curtains, as well as for curtain systems with large and heavy drive means. -8-
