ABSTRACT Heat activated, fabric conditioning products are made by impregnating a thick, abosrbent substrate with fabric-conditioner chemicals. Such products are designed for use at elevated temper- atures encountered in laundry dryers. This invention provides an improved process for making such products and an apparatus for applying liquids to the substrate. Previously a doctor blade was used in combination with a roller to limit the volume of liquid being applied to the substrate during compression of the substrate in a nip. The present invention concerns a thin wire drawn under tension which can function as the doctor to obtain a smooth thin film of liquid on the lower roller of the nip used for applying the liquid to the substrate.
