ABSTRACT The invention relates to a pre-adjustable spring-loadable tensioner for belts or chains, in particular for a control gear of an internal combustion engine. A tension roller is mounted on an eccentric support which in turn is guided on an eccentric inner component which can be attached to a housing. A spring resiliently urges the support against the housing. The inner component utilizes a flanged bush which freely rotatably engages a base plate guided by a radial guide arm on the housing. The resulting tensioner is easily adjusted, uses few parts, occupies a small space and provides a wide range of adjustment.
