Abstract In a tensioning device (S) for a flexible driving element (E) such as a belt or a chain of a driving system (T) connecting at least the crankshaft (K) and a generator (G) of an internal combustion engine, a first tension roller (R1) is arranged on a pivotably mounted tensioning arm (H) deflecting the driving element (E) with initial tension, and additionally a second tension roller (R2) with a lever arm (b) shorter than the lever arm (a) of the first tension roller (R1) is provided, and the driving element (E) is deflected on both tension rollers (R1, R2) such that the resultants (F1, F2) of the deflection forces result in an opposite couple of forces in view of the drag bearing (L).
