Abstract of the Disclosure New flame-retarded rubber and plastic compositions are disclosed which are economical to produce and which exhibit increased flame-retardance and reduced toxicity. Generally, these new composi- tions comprise a copolymer of acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber or a terpolymer of acrylonitrile, butadiene and styrene, a bromine- or chlorine-containing organic fire-retardant additive, and an iron compound selected from a specified group.
