ABSTRACT The present invention provides a new class of compounds, namely 16.alpha.-, 17.alpha.- and/or 21-retinoates of anti-inflamma- tory steroids of the pregnane series having a hydroxyl group at least one of the 16.alpha.-, 17.alpha.- and 21-positions, processes for their preparation and cosmetic compositions containing them. The novel compounds are useful in the cosmetic treatment of acne.
