A new class of 2,2':6',2"-terpyridine-platinum (II) and substituted 2,2':6',2"- terpyridine-platinum (II) complexes in which an N- or O- or halo nucleophile is the fourth ligand to platinum. The compounds are potent intercalators of DNA. Some have antitumour activity. Some have anti-parasitic activity. A new method of preparing the complexes involves reacting a Pt complex of 1,5- cyclooctadiene with a 2,2':6',2"-terpyridine.

L'invention porte sur une nouvelle classe de complexes de 2,2':6',2"-terpyridine-platine (II) et de 2,2':6',2"-terpyridine-platine (II) substituée, complexes dans lesquels un nucléophile N ou O ou halo constitue le quatrième ligand se fixant au platine. Les composés sont des intercaleurs puissants d'ADN. Certains ont une activité antitumorale, d'autre antiparasitaire. L'invention porte également sur un nouveau procédé de préparation de ces complexes consistant à faire réagir un complexe Pt de 1,5-cyclooctadiène avec une 2,2':6',2"-terpyridine.
