ABSTRACT NOVEL TERTIARY PHOSPHINES The novel tertiary phosphines according to the present invention are compounds of the general formula Image (I) wherein R1 and R2 each, independently or taken together, represent an optionally substituted hydrocarbon group; R3 and R4 each independently represent a hydrogen atom, an optionally substituted hydrocarbon group, a group R8-?- or a group R9-O-?-, wherein R8 and R9 each independently represent an optionally substituted hydrocarbon group; R5 and R6 each independently represent a hydroxy group, an optionally substituted hydrocarbon group, a group R10-O- , a group R11-?-O- or a group Image , wherein R10, R11, R12, R13 each independently represent an optionally substituted hydrocarbon group, or R5 and R6 taken together represent an oxygen atom or a group Image wherein R14 represents an optionally substituted hydrocarbon group; and R7 represents a hydrogen atom or a group Image . The compounds of the invention are useful as ligands or intermediates for ligands for transition metal catalysts.
