A system and method for accessing a number of communication lines by one or more testing devices are disclosed. Each of the communications lines is coupled through the system and includes a first termination at a first telecommunications termination site and a second termination at a second telecommunications termination site. The system includes a number of line access devices, each of which is coupled to at least one of the communication lines terminating at the first telecommunications termination site and at least one of the communication lines terminating at the second telecommunications termination site. One or more monitoring busses are defined by a number of relays, one or more of which is coupled to one of the line access devices. A test device interface, which is selectively coupled to the bus, provides bi-directional connectivity between the selected communication line and a selected testing device coupled thereto. An activated one or more of the relays couples a selected one of the communication lines to a selected one of the testing devices via the test device interface. A single or multiple patch capability provides for manually establishing cross-connections between selected communication lines and for redirecting communication line connections to selected testing devices. The test access system and method accomodates various high speed digital transmission line protocols. The transmission lines coupled through the system may comprise high speed digital transmission lines characterized by transmission rates on the order of tens, hundreds or thousands of megabits per second (Mbps).
L'invention concerne un système et un procédé permettant d'accéder à un certain nombre de lignes de communication par l'intermédiaire d'au moins un dispositif d'essai. Chacune des lignes de communication est couplée par le biais du système et comprend une première terminaison au niveau d'un premier site de terminaison de télécommunication et une seconde terminaison au niveau d'un second site de terminaison de télécommunication. Le système comporte un certain nombre de dispositifs d'accès de lignes, chacun d'eux étant couplé à au moins une des lignes de communication qui se terminent au premier site de terminaison de télécommunication et à au moins une des lignes de communication qui se termine audit second site. Au moins un des bus de contrôle est défini par un certain nombre de relais, au moins un de ces bus est couplé à un des dispositifs d'accès de lignes. Une interface du dispositif d'essai, qui est couplée de manière sélective au bus, produit une connexion bidirectionnelle entre la ligne de communication sélectionnée et un dispositif d'essai sélectionné couplé à cette ligne. Au moins un relais activé des relais relie une ligne de communication sélectionnée à un dispositif d'essai sélectionné par le biais de l'interface du dispositif d'essai. L'invention concerne aussi une capacité de pièce unique ou multiple permettant d'établir manuellement des interconnexions entre des lignes de communication sélectionnées et de diriger à nouveau des connexions de lignes de communication vers des dispositifs d'essai sélectionnés. Le système et le procédé d'accès d'essai permet d'adapter plusieurs protocoles de lignes de transmission numérique à grande vitesse. Les lignes de transmission couplées par le système peuvent comprendre des lignes de transmission numériques à grande vitesse caractérisées par des débits de transmission de l'ordre de dix, cent ou mille mégabits par seconde (Mbps).
