A unit for deciding the coloration of a test piece by comparison with reference samples including a display of a plurality of color samples arranged for comparison to specimen, means for identifying a selected color sample, a first memory means for storing values representing each of said different color samples and combination thereof, and display means for displaying a stored color sample value corresponding to a color sample or combination of color samples selected. The unit further includes a stationary mounting member having an area for mounting a specimen, and a rotatable color sample member mounted on the stationary member. The color samples are arranged in the form of a circle on the color sample member.
