Novel tetrazolinone derivatives of the formula (I) and intermediates of the formula (II) for production thereof represented by the following formulas Image Image (I) (II) wherein R1 represents alkyl substituted by halogen, R2 and R3 represent alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, cycloalkyl, phenyl or substituted phenyl, or R2 and R3 may optionally form a 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic ring together with the N-atom to which they attach, said heterocyclic ring being optionally substituted. The above tetrazolinone derivatives have an excellent activity as the effective component in herbicides.
