A method for texture quantification is provided. Data in-dicative of a complex-valued local spatial frequency distribution in space--frequency domain are determined by processing a multidimensional image data set based on a Stockwell transform with a phase term corresponding to spatial locations of respective frequency components being expressed in terms of radial distance and angle of orientation. The complex-valued local spatial frequency distribution is indicative of a feature of the object. Data indicative of a low frequency energy distribution are determined by filter-ing the data indicative of a complex- valued local spatial frequency distri-bution using a band-pass filter having a predetermined low frequency en-ergy bandwidth.

L'invention concerne un procédé de quantification de texture. Des données indicatives d'une répartition de fréquences spatiales locales de valeur complexe dans le domaine espace-fréquence sont déterminées par le traitement d'un ensemble de données d'image multidimensionnelles sur la base d'une transformation de Stockwell, un terme de phase correspondant aux emplacements spatiaux des composantes de fréquence respectives étant exprimé en termes de distance radiale et d'angle d'orientation. La répartition de fréquences spatiales locales de valeur complexe est indicative d'une caractéristique de l'objet. Les données indicatives d'une répartition d'énergie basse fréquence sont déterminées par filtrage des données indicatives d'une répartition de fréquences spatiales locales de valeur complexe en utilisant un filtre passe-bande ayant une bande passante d'énergie basse fréquence prédéterminée.
