A surface capable of supporting surface charge oscillations and exhibiting a profiled grating, said profile comprising at least two superposed periodic profiles. The surface has applications as radar absorber and authentication devices. Also disclosed is a method of detecting the authenticity of an object comprising providing a surface as described above claim adjacent to or on the object, illuminating said surface with radiation from at least one angle and determining the reflectivity characteristics and comparing this with reflectivity characteristics of a reference surface.

Surface capable de supporter des oscillations de charge superficielle et présentant un réseau profilé, ledit profil comprenant au moins deux profils périodiques superposés. On peut utiliser cette surface dans des dispositifs d'authentification et d'absorption radar. L'invention concerne également un procédé servant à détecter l'authenticité d'un objet, ce qui consiste à placer cette surface en position contiguë à l'objet, ou sur ce dernier, à éclairer ladite surface par un rayonnement depuis au moins un angle et à déterminer les caractéristiques de réflectivité, puis à comparer celles-ci aux caractéristiques de réflectivité d'une surface de référence.
