A TGF-.beta. gene expression inhibitor containing a pyrrole-imidazole polyamide comprising an N-methylpyrrole unit (hereinafter also referred to as Py), an N-methylimidazole unit (hereinafter also referred to as Im) and a .gamma.-aminobutyric acid unit which can be folded into an U-shaped conformation at the above-described .gamma.-aminobutyric acid unit site in a minor groove of a double-stranded region (hereinafter referred to as the target region) containing a part or the whole of the following base sequence (SEQ ID NO:2) corresponding to -450 to -310 of human transforming growth factor .beta.1 (hereinafter also referred to as h TGF-.beta.1) promoter and a strand complementary thereto and in which a Py/Im pair, an Im/Py pair and a Py/Py pair correspond respectively to a C-G base pair, a G-C base pair and an A-T base pair and a T-A base pair.
Inhibiteur de l'expression du gène du TGF-.beta. contenant un polyamide de pyrrole-imidazole comprenant un motif N-méthylpyrrole (ci-après également appelé Py), un motif N-méthylimidazole (ci-après également appelé Im) et un motif acide .gamma.-aminobutyrique, lequel polyamide peut être plié en une conformation de U au niveau du site du motif acide .gamma.-aminobutyrique décrit ci-dessus dans le petit sillon d'une région à double brins (ci-après appelée la région cible) contenant une partie ou la totalité de la séquence de bases suivante (SEQ ID n° 2) correspondant à la séquence -450 à -310 du promoteur de facteur de croissance transformant .beta.1 humain (ci-après également appelé h TGF-.beta.1) et un brin complémentaire à celle-ci, ladite région contenant une paire Py/Im, une paire Im/Py et une paire Py/Py correspondant respectivement à une paire de bases C-G, une paire de bases G-C et une paire de bases A-T et une paire de bases T-A.
