A family of small peptides have been found to be inhibitory to TGF-.beta. activity, and preferably have the primary structure of Formula (1): AA~1-AA~2- AA~3-Pro-D-Glu-Ala, wherein AA~1 is leucine, phenylalanine, .alpha.- aminoisobutric acid, N-methylalanine, N-methylisoIeucine or isoleucine; AA~2 is the same or a different amino acid residue as in AA~1; and AA~3 is alanine or N-methylalanine.

Selon l'invention, on a découvert une famille de petits peptides inhibant l'activité de TGF- beta . De préférence, ces petits peptides sont représentés par la formule générale (I), dans laquelle AA1 est leucine, phénylalanine, acide alpha -aminoisobutyrique, N-méthylalanine, N-méthylisoleucine ou isoleucine, AA2 est un résidu d'acide aminé identique ou différent par rapport à AA1, et AA3 est alanine ou N-méthylalanine.
