A protein from the M. catarrhalis designated the 74 kD protein is isolated and purified. The 74 kD protein has an amino-terminal amino acid sequence which is conserved among various strains of M. catarrhalis. The protein has a molecular weight of approximately 74,9 kD as measured on a 10 % SDS-PAGE gel, while its molecular weight as measured by mass spectrometry is approximately 74 kD. The 74 kD protein is used to prepare a vaccine composition which elicits a protective immune response in a mammalian host to protect the host again disease caused by M. catarrhalis.
On isole et purifie une protéine de M. catarrhalis, appelée protéine 74kD. Ladite protéine 74 kD comporte une séquence d'acides aminés à terminaison amino qui est conservée parmi plusieurs souches de M. catarrhalis. La protéine a un poids moléculaire d'environ 74,9 kD si on le mesure au moyen d'un gel à 10 % de SDS-PAGE, alors que son poids moléculaire mesuré par spectrométrie de masse est de 74 kD environ. La protéine 74 kD est utilisée dans la préparation d'une composition vaccinale qui élicite une réponse immunitaire protectrice chez un hôte mammifère afin de protéger cet hôte contre des maladies induites par M. catarrhalis.
