A method and apparatus for measuring brake component wear on a s-cam foundation brake assembly without the removal of a brake drum. A foundation brake analyzer tool includes a magnet to hold the tool to the end of a plurality of s-cams. A threaded centring pin centres the tool to the end of an s-cam and is used to secure the magnet to bottom of the first disc to form the tool base. The centring pin is the axis to which the second disc, third disc and pointer rotate on. The first disc displays, rotationally clockwise and rotationally counter clockwise degrees of rotation from 0 to 180 and is used to measure total s-cam rotation. A second disc displays brake lining dimensions and related s-cam rotation values and is mounted on top of the first disc. A pointer that is mounted on top of the third disc and is equipped with a viewing window so that total s-cam rotation values minus brake lining values equals brake drum values may be calculated and viewed. A fastener that threads to the top of the centre pin to hold the pointer, second disc and third disc to the tool base.
