This invention is the use of a common, hand operated, ammunition loading/reloading press (Figure 3), in combination with an Adaptor (Figure 1), that will safely and efficiently facilitate the disassembly of firing pin assemblies (Figure 2) of various firearms. Existing tools that facilitate the disassembling of firing pin assemblies are usually a combination of bars, bolts, washers and nuts which are used to compress the mainspring of these assemblies so a retaining pin can be removed or or retaining slots aligned. Because the main spring of these assemblies are under high compression they can be dangerous and must be handled with great care. This invention utilizes the leverage of existing common reloading presses, in combination with an Adaptor, to accomplish the same result with safety and convenience. The one piece Adaptor is held in the press by threads and the firing pin assembly is held within the Adaptor by interior threads or slotted key ways (Figure 4). The lever of the press is then manually operated to hold the compressed spring safely in position (Figure 5). The gunsmith now has both hands free to remove the exposed retaining mechanism (usually a pin or screw). Once the retaining pin has been removed the press lever is again manually operated to allow a safe and controlled pressure release of the main spring which facilitates the complete disassembly of the firing pin assembly.
