The present invention provides a novel sequence of the pig myogenin gene, as well as methods of using said gene and its products. Especially the invention provides methods for detecting different alleles of the pig myogenin gene, which different alleles are associated with differences in the genotypic and/or phenotypic traits of the pigs having those alleles. Especially the invention provides methods for distinguishing between alleles resulting in different phenotypes, particularly using techniques involving selective amplification of pig myogenin gene derived materials. These techniques are especially suitable for selecting animals to be used in breeding programmes. Breeding programmes employing such techniques are also disclosed.
La présente invention concerne une nouvelle séquence du gène de la myogénine du porc ainsi que des procédés d'utilisation de ce gène et de ses produits. En particulier, l'invention concerne des procédés de détection de différents allèles dudit gène, qui sont associés à des différences dans les traits génotypiques ou phénotypiques, ou les deux, des porcs possédant ces allèles. En particulier, l'invention concerne des procédés permettant d'opérer des distinctions entre des allèles donnant différents phénotypes, particulièrement grâce à l'utilisation de techniques comportant l'amplification sélective de substances dérivées du gène de la myogénine du porc. Ces techniques conviennent particulièrement pour la sélection d'animaux devant être utilisés dans des programmes de reproduction. L'invention concerne également de tels programmes, utilisant de telles techniques.
