A method of producing fluorinated organic compounds such as organic sulphur pentafluorides. The method includes the steps of converting a compound such as R1-S-S-R2 into R1SF5 by reaction with an inert solvent of R1-S-S-R2 and elemental fluorine. R1 and R2 may be for example selected from aryl, heteroaryl, aliphatic or alycyclic groups.
