The present invention provides methods of treating an autoimmune pathology in a mammal, comprising administering an agent with estrogen receptor a agonist activity in particular a selective estrogen receptor modulator, to the mammal in an amount sufficient to decrease production of TH-1 and/or TH-2 cytokines. Also provided is a method of selecting compounds useful for the treatment of multiple sclerosis, comprising selecting a compound which has estrogen receptor a agonist activity.
L'invention concerne des procédés de traitement d'une pathologie auto-immune chez un mammifère, consistant à administrer un agent à activité .alpha.-agoniste du récepteur des oestrogènes, en particulier un modulateur sélectif du récepteur des oestrogènes, audit mammifère, en une quantité suffisante pour diminuer la production de cytokines TH-1 et/ou TH-2. L'invention concerne en outre un procédé de sélection de composés utilisés pour le traitement de la sclérose en plaques, consistant à sélectionner un composé ayant une activité .alpha.-agoniste du récepteur des oestrogènes.
