This invention protects the use of nicotine, analogues thereof, precursors thereof or derivates thereof for the treatment of inflammatory, infectious, candidal or degenerative diseases (of the joints and/or of the central nervous system, the kidneys, the lungs or the liver), depression, obesity, bone disease and the like, which can be improved by means of intensification of the actions of .alpha.-MSH, given the fact that this hormone has extraordinary properties: e.g. it has an antipyretic potency 20 000 times as great as acetaminophen, its antimicrobial potency is comparable to that of gentamycin, it is the best anti-candidasiac known; it inhibits apoptosis of various cell lines, and significantly modulates immune reactions, and therefore the use of agents that affect its release may have significant therapeutic potential. This patent protects the use of nicotine, analogues thereof, precursors thereof or derivatives thereof for the purposes of increasing and/or reducing the bioavailability of .alpha.-MSH in the blood and/or central or peripheral tissue in order to accentuate or diminish the effect of the .alpha.-MSH by means of changes in its concentration or its effect on the corresponding receptors of any cell, tissue or organ in the body, administered for therapeutic and/or prophylactic purposes in the short, medium and/or long term.
L'invention concerne l'utilisation de la nicotine, de ses analogues, précurseurs ou dérivés en vue du traitement de maladies inflammatoires, infectieuses, par candida, dégénératives (articulaires et/ou du système nerveux central, des reins, du poumon, du foie), de dépressions, d'obésité, de maladies osseuses, entre autres, maladies qui sont susceptibles d'être enrayées par intensification des actions du .alpha.-MSH en raison des propriétés surprenantes de cette hormone, à savoir par exemple sa puissance antipyrétique 20000 fois supérieure à celle de l'acétaminophène, sa puissance antimicrobienne comparable à celle de la gentamycine, ce qui lui confère une activité excellente anti-candida. Elle inhibe l'apoptose de différentes souches cellulaires et module considérablement les réactions immunitaires, ce qui fait que l'utilisation d'agents incidents sur sa libération peut avoir un potentiel thérapeutique non négligeable. L'invention concerne l'utilisation de la nicotine, de ces analogues, précurseurs ou dérivés aux fins d'augmenter et/ou diminuer la biodisponibilité de .alpha.-MSH dans le sang et/ou les tissus centraux ou périphériques afin d'accentuer ou de réduire l'effet du .alpha.-MSH moyennant des changements dans sa teneur ou ses effets sur les récepteurs correspondants dans une cellule, un tissu ou un organe quelconque. L'administration vise à traiter et/ou prévenir les maladies à court, moyen et/ou long terme.
