A theft prevention device for automobiles of the invention includes a head portion which is a hollow tube having a longitudinal slot that can be fit to the steering wheel and a protrusion inserted into a central portion along the slot, dividing the slot into two parts. The protrusion is located inside the head portion in a co- axial manner and is attached to the handle portion. When it is desired to lock to the steering wheel, the slot in the head portion of the theft prevention device of this invention is brought to cover the steering wheel and turn the handle portion so that the protrusion is turned and inserted to lock the steering wheel. This is convenient to use in an efficient way. Additionally, this invention can be applied to the steering wheel of both left- hand and right-hand type.
