A theft-resistant light bulb comprises a housing, and a light emitting member secured to the housing. A first electrical contact is mounted on the housing in electrically conductive relation with the light emitting member. A second electrical contact is mounted on the housing in electrically conductive relation with the light emitting member. When sufficient voltage is applied across the first electrical contact and the second electrical contact, the light emitting member emits light. A socket engaging collar is disposed in freely rotatable relation on the housing, for secure threaded engagement with a co-operating threaded electrical contact of a light socket, and for electrical contact with the first electrical contact when the light bulb is operatively installed in the light socket. An elongate locking shaft is used to rotationally lock the housing with respect to the socket engaging collar, such that the socket engaging collar is caused to rotate with the housing when the housing is rotated during installation or removal of the light bulb.
