A B S T R A C T New theophylline derivatives of the formula Image (I) in which R denotes hydrogen or OH, n the numbers 0 or 1, X either Image or Image , Y either -O- or -CO- and Ar a five or six-membered aryl or heteroaryl ring optionally substituted by halogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy or haloalkyl, show inter alia histamine-,serotonin-,bradykynin- antagonistic, anti-anaphylactic and .beta.-adrenergic stimu- lation effects.
