The present invention relates generally to chemical agents useful in the prophylaxis and/or treatment of disease conditions and in particular chronic disease conditions such as inflammatory including allergic diseases, metastatic cancers and infection by pathogenic agents including bacteria, viruses or parasites. More particularly, the chemical agents contemplated by the present invention are selected from glycosaminoglycan (GAG) molecules derived from a larger GAG, GAG-like molecules which resemble GAGs in some of their characteristics but may be derived from a larger non-GAG polysaccharide and molecules having a GAG-like composite structure as well as agents which bind to the same sites as GAGs, GAG-like molecules or GAG-like composite molecules. The present invention also provides assays to identify GAG and GAG- like therapeutic agents including GAG-like composite structures as well as analogs, homologs and orthologs thereof.
La présente convention se rapporte généralement aux agents chimiques utiles dans la prévention et/ou le traitement d'états pathologiques et notamment d'états pathologiques chroniques tels que les maladies inflammatoires, y compris les maladies allergiques, les cancers à métastases et les infections par des agents pathogènes, y compris des bactéries, des virus ou des parasites. Plus particulièrement, les agents chimiques de cette invention sont sélectionnés parmi les molécules de glycosaminoglycane (GAG) dérivées à partir de molécules GAG ou similaires à GAG qui ressemblent à GAG par certaines de leurs caractéristiques mais qui peuvent être dérivées à partir de polysaccharides et de molécules non GAG plus importantes possédant une structure composite similaire à GAG, ainsi que des agents qui se lient aux mêmes sites que GAG, les molécules similaires à GAG ou les molécules composites similaires à GAG. La présente invention concerne ainsi des dosages servant à identifier des agents thérapeutiques GAG et similaires à GAG comprenant des structures composites ainsi que leurs analogues, homologues et orthologues.
