Therapeutic low intensity direct current is applied to a patient by means of electrodes, at least one of which contains silver. Automatic switching means are provided to reverse the polarity of the direct current from time to time to prevent the accumulation of unwanted materials upon the silver electrode due to electrochem- ical action.
