The present invention provides novel compositions and methods useful in cancer therapy for inhibiting the multidrug resistance phenotype, which often thwarts long-term chemotherapeutic regimens. The novel compositions of matter comprise oligonucleotides targeted to the human MDR1 and MRP genes, which inhibit expression of these genes, thereby rendering tumors and other forms of cancer more susceptible to the cytotoxic effects of chemotherapeutic agents. Oligonucleotides are also provided that inhibit the multidrug resistance phenotype by exerting an aptameric effect.
La présente invention concerne de nouvelles compositions et de nouveaux procédés qui sont utiles lors de thérapies contre le cancer et permettent d'inhiber le phénotype de résistance multiple aux anticancéreux faisant souvent obstacle à des traitements chimiothérapeutiques à long terme. Ces nouvelles compositions importantes contiennent des oligonucléotides qui sont ciblés vers les gènes MDR1 et MRP chez l'homme, qui inhibent l'expression de ces gènes, et rendent ainsi les tumeurs et autres formes de cancer plus sensibles aux effets cytotoxiques d'agents chimiothérapeutiques. Cette invention concerne également des oligonucléotides qui inhibent le phénotype de résistance multiple aux anticancéreux en exerçant un effet aptamérique.
