THERMAL PRINTING APPARATUS ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Thermal printing apparatus for imprinting a continuous strip of polyethylene film bags. A thermal print head assembly contains heating elements which are programmable so as to be selectively energizable permitting the desired information to be imprinted on a continuous strip of polyethylene film bags via a continuous strip of carbon thermal transfer film. The print head bar associated with the thermal print head assembly is movable so as to contact the continuous strip of carbon thermal transfer film only during the printing process. The continuous strip of carbon thermal transfer film maintains intimate contact with the continuous strip of polyethylene film bags for a period of time after imprinting to ensure that the desired information is "fused" onto the continuous strip of polyethylene film bags.
