PRECIS DE LA DIVULTATION: L'invention concerne la production de magnésium par voie thermique. En utilisant comme source de magnésie un laitier résiduaire provenant de la la fabrication de certains ferrochrome carburés, et comme réducteur un ferro-silico- aluminium lors de la mise en oeuvre du procédé MAGNETHERM, on obtient du magnésium d'une pureté élevée, avec un excellent rendement, et on augmente d'environ 16 % la capacité de produc- tion d'un four donné, par rapport à l'utilisation de dolomie calcinée. On récupère, en outre, un alliage résiduaire contenant du chrome et du silicium.
