A thermal protection device for a plant comprises a tube of plastics material which is heat sealed at the ends and open to form a cylinder surrounding a vertical axis at the plant. One end of the cylinder sits on the ground and an upper end is spaced upwardly from the ground. The tube is then heat sealed by parallel vertical lines spaced around the cylinder with each line extending from the bottom edge to a position spaced from the top edge leaving an area between the top edge and the top of the lines which is free from heat sealing allowing the water to be filled into the device to be injected through an opening in the top edge, to pass around the area and to fill the space between each line and the next adjacent line.
