ABSTRACT A thermal switch having an improved contact mechanism which is cheap and easy to manufacture, in which a conductive casing is provided with a terminal connected to the casing and a terminal insulated therefrom. A resilient contact means within the casing is compressed in the axial direction between a solid fusible pellet and the insulated terminal with which it is in electrical contact, so that it is normally expanded radially outwardly to electrically contact the casing. At a preselected melting temperature the pellet collapses to release the axial pressure on the resilient contact means and thus permit its radial contraction out of electrical contact with the casing.
