A sleeve compression system for use with a hot gas conduit having an outer pipe, a ceramic sleeve within the pipe having a lesser outer diameter than the inner diameter of the pipe, and axially movable within the pipe, for the passage of very hot gases therethrough; a pre-loading compression module is located at the downstream end of the conduit, providing a force acting in an up-stream direction against the sleeve elements, to hold the sleeve elements compressed in the up-steam direction. The module has an outer pipe; at least one spring located outside the pipe connected in axial compresive relation with a ceramic sleeve within the module, to maintain the application of pre-determined, limited compressive axial force on the sleeve at all times. The module ceramic sleeve is securely contained within a metal sleeve to form a slider element within the pipe, the metal sleeve being diametrically dimensioned to provide a smooth sliding fit within the surrounding pipe. The metal sleeve connects through slots in the pipe wall with a pair of light springs secured to the outside of the pipe, so that the spring force is applied symetrically to the metal sleeve. An intermediate adjustable portion of ceramic sleeve connects the slider in compressive relation with the ceramic sleeve of the conduit. A muff coupling secures the compression module in removably secured relation with the conduit.
