ABSTRACT A complete thermal barrier is achieved between interior and exterior metal frame members of a door or window assembly, the frame members being separated by a thermal break member. The sliding panels of the. assembly are disposed inwardly and outwardly of the median of the thermal break member. A thermal barrier insulating member is provided on an outer metal frame member of one of the panels and is adapted to meet with an outer metal frame member of the other of the panels. A thermal barrier member is provided in the outer frame of the overall assembly, extends lineally therewith and extends inwardly from the thermal break member enough to provide the com- plete thermal barrier mentioned above. Thus the frame members are exposed only to either interior or exterior ambient temperatures.
