The P2 1/n crystal form of p-tert-butylcalix(4)arene (tBC) can be used to adsorb a gas or to selectively adsorb a component from a gas mixture, e.g. carbon dioxide from a mixture of hydrocarbons and CO2. The adsorbed gas can be desorbed by heating the tBC/gas combination.
