ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A thermoelectric generator is equipped with a protective device which upon overload conditions disconnects a primary load, such as a rechargeable battery, in order to protect the secondary load, i.e., the burner, fuel pump and other ancillary items necessary to operate the thermoelectric generator. The protective device includes a voltage selectable breakdown diode, a transistor switch, a relay whose coil is connected to the transistor switch and preferably an anti-clatter circuit.
