A co-thermoforming process for forming thermoplastic foam sheet of low density and small cell size. The sheet is formed from multiple webs of thinner gauge polystyrene foam which permits improved control of cell size and resultant functionality of product thermoformed from the sheet. Adhesion of the webs is achieved in the thermoforming process. The co-thermoformed products have improved ductility and surface characteristics.

L'invention concerne un procédé de co-thermoformage permettant la fabrication de minces feuilles de thermoplastique expansé de faible densité et à cellules de petites dimensions. La feuille mince est constituée de plusieurs bandes en polystyrène de faible épaisseur, ce qui permet de mieux maîtriser la taille des cellules et d'améliorer la fonctionnalité des articles thermoformés à partir de ladite feuille. L'adhérence des feuilles est obtenue au cours du processus de thermoformage. Les produits obtenus par ce procédé de co-thermoformage présentent une ductilité et des caractéristiques de surface améliorées.
