ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A thermomagnetic recording method is disclosed which includes the steps of providing a layer of soft magnetic material having an easy axis of magnetization normal to the layer and being of the type of magnetic material in which magnetic bubble domains can be generated, applying bias magnetic field to the layer, strength of the magnetic field being selected between the run-out field and the collapse field, and applying an optical beam to the layer so as to form a bubble domain having magnetization opposite in direction to the bias field, the layer of the soft magnetic material having selected values Image Image , ?, h, Hc and Ms to satisfy the relation Image wherein Hc is the coercive force of the layer, Ms is the saturation magnetization of the layer, h is the thickness of the layer, .sigma.w is domain wall energy, d is the diameter of the generated domain, each of CM and C.sigma. is a constant determined by h, d and ? where Image .
