A composition comprising a thermoplastic and a CO2 releasing material; wherein the CO2 releasing material comprises: a) a carbon and oxygen containing salt of an alkali or alkaline earth metal; and b) an acid; the CO2 releasing material has a sufficient amount and ratio of the carbon and oxygen containing salt of the alkali or alkaline earth metal and the acid so that, in the presence of water, the CO2 releasing material reacts to release CO2 gas through the thermoplastic into a surrounding environment.

Composition contenant un matériau thermoplastique et un matériau libérant CO2. Ce dernier comprend: a) un sel contenant carbone et oxygène d'un métal terreux alcalin et b) un acide. Ce matériau libérant CO2 présente une quantité et un rapport suffisants entre le sel contenant carbone et oxygène du métal alcalin ou terreux alcalin et l'acide de sorte que, en présence d'eau, ce matériel libérant CO2 subit une réaction libérant CO2 gazeux à travers le thermoplastique dans l'environnement immédiat.
