Disclosed are thermoplastic copolyesters having improved gas barrier properties and which can be produced having little or no acetaldehyde. These copolyesters are especially useful in the manufacture of food packaging products, foodtrays, film and beverage bottles which require good oxygen and carbon dioxide barrier properties. The copolyesters comprise repeat units from 10 to 100 mole percent repeat units from naphtalene dicarboxylic acid, 90 to 0 mole percent repeat units from terephthalic acid and repeat units from essentially 100 mole percent 1,4-cyclohexane-dimethanol, wherein said 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol has a cis isomer content of at least 50 % said copolyester having an I.V. of 0.4-1.2.
On divulgue des copolyesters thermoplastiques ayant des propriétés d'imperméabilité aux gaz améliorées et qui peuvent être produits sans acétaldéhyde ou avec très peu d'acétaldéhyde. Ces copolyesters sont particulièrement utiles dans la fabrication des produits d'emballage alimentaire, des plateaux pour aliments, des pellicules et des bouteilles pour boissons qui nécessitent de bonnes propriétés d'imperméabilité à l'oxygène et au dioxyde de carbone. Les copolyesters comprennent des motifs de 10 à 100 %, en pourcentage molaire, de motifs d'acide naphtalènedicarboxylique, 90 à 0 %, en pourcentage molaire, de motifs d'acide téréphtalique et des motifs d'essentiellement 100 %, en pourcentage molaire, de 1,4-cyclohexanediméthanol, ledit 1,4-cyclohexanediméthanol ayant une teneur en isomère cis d'au moins 50 % dudit copolyester ayant un indice limite de viscosité de 0,4-1,2.
