A thermoplastic multilayer composite material is disclosed. The composite comprises at least a first layer made of a moulding compound base on a polyvinylidene fluoride and a second layer adjacent to the first layer, which second layer is made of a moulding compound based on a mixture of a polyamide and a polyglutarimide. The two layers are adhesively bonded to one another. The composite has an outstanding resistance to and barrier action against diffusion of chemicals, solvents and fuels. Since the layers are adhesively bonded to one another, no delamination occurs on thermal expansion or flexing of the finished part. The composite is used in structural parts, particularly in electrical, engineering and automobile industries, where the barrier action of the polyvinylidene fluoride needs to be combined with the good mechanical properties of polyamide.
