CA 2106086

There is provided a thermoplastic saturated norbornene resin which has desirable properties as an optical material, which has a small birefringence and which is low in deterioration of optical properties. A sheet having a maximum birefringence of 20 nm or less, made of a thermoplastic norbornene resin having a glass transition temperature of 110°C or more and a residual solvent concentration of 0.5% by weight or less, is obtained by dissolving a thermoplastic saturated norbornene resin in a solvent having a boiling point of 100°C or more, drying the cast solution at a highest temperature of 100°C or less until the residual solvent concentration becomes 10% by weight or less, and then continuing drying at a temperature of 110°C or more until the residual solvent concentration becomes 0.5% by weight or less.
