The invention relates to composite materials of construction comprising thermosetting resins and fibrous reinforcing or filling agents therefore as well as methods for the fabrication thereof. The thermosetting resin composition comprises a particulate thermosetting phenol-aldehyde resin; and a particulate curing agent for the thermosetting resin. The curing agent is encapsulated in a water insoluble thermoplastic resin having a softening point higher than, (1) the melting point of said thermosetting resin and, (2) the temperature at which said thermosetting resin flows on a solid substrate. The encapsulating thermoplastic resin also is dissolvable in the thermosetting resin by heating said curing agent capable of curing said thermosetting resin upon melting of the encapsulating thermoplastic resin and release thereof. The phenol-aldehyde resin is a novolak formed by condensation of a phenol component comprising at least one bifunctional phenol with at least one aldehyde component represented by the formula: R-CHO wherein R represents a hydrogen atom, a methyl group or a halogenated methyl group.
L'invention concerne des matériaux de construction composites qui comprennent des résines thermodurcissables et des agents fibreux de renforcement ou de remplissage ainsi que des procédés de fabrication desdits matériaux. La composition de résine thermodurcissable comprend une résine thermodurcissable particulaire phénol-aldéhyde et un agent de traitement particulaire pour la résine thermodurcissable. L'agent de traitement est enrobé dans une résine thermoplastique insoluble dans l'eau dont le point de ramollissement est supérieur, (1) au point de fusion de ladite résine thermodurcissable et, (2) à la température à laquelle ladite résine thermodurcissable s'écoule sur un substrat solide. Pour dissoudre la résine thermoplastique d'enrobement dans la résine thermodurcissable, il faut chauffer l'agent de traitement capable de durcir ladite résine thermodurcissable une fois que la résine thermoplastique d'enrobement a fondu et que ladite résine thermodurcissable s'en est dégagé. Ladite résine phénol-aldéhyde est une novolaque formée par condensation d'un composant phénol contenant au moins un phénol bifonctionnel avec au moins un composant aldéhyde représenté par la formule : R-CHO dans laquelle R représente un atome d'hydrogène, un groupe méthyle ou un groupe méthyle halogéné.
